Kayaking

We shove off from 60 different landings from March to November. Opportunities abound in this beautiful area in which we live. Every paddle is unique. Come and see for yourself!

“I loved the kayaking this am–perfect weather, perfect river, perfect people to kayak with, perfect length. Thank you! Thank you! Thank you!!!” ~ Carol

“One of my favorite aspects of paddling is that every time I go out I see lots of birds.” ~ Mary

DEFINING PADDLING TERMS

Specialty Paddles occur on the lakes or on the backwaters of the Mighty Mississippi and are usually nice and easy paddles.

  • Sunrise Paddle
  • Sunset Paddle
  • Birding Paddle
  • Moonlight Paddle
  • Foliage/Garden Paddle
  • Etcetera!

Nice and Easy Paddles – Usually perfect for newbies, but since we live in a beautiful, awesome area they are perfect for everyone! Goose Island, Lake Onalaska, and sections of the Mississippi, La Crosse, Black and Root rivers all fall into this category. Specialty paddles are usually in this category as well and are some of my favorites!

On the Move River Paddles – Some rivers present more of a challenge than the nice and easy paddles. These paddles require the ability to steer your kayak through “tight” spots. You will increase your knowledge and ability to read currents. Confidence is gained on these paddles as you may encounter ripples to Low Class I rapids and minimum hazards (trees, rocks). Wet Exit Training and a strokes clinic are mandatory at this level.

Go For It River Paddles – Class I to II rapids and moderate hazards are possible. These are for the hearty soul who welcomes a true challenge! A strokes clinic and Wet Exit Training are mandatory at this level.

Exploring Paddles – These paddles are being done for the first time and/or in different weather/water conditions. You must have experience and confidence about your ability and kayak. These are by invitation only.  Talk to Pat. Wet Exit training and a strokes clinic are mandatory at this level.

I’ve enjoyed [Set Free] as it gave me the confidence to do things that I thought I wouldn’t.  One experience was kayaking on the river with Class I Rapids.  I’m not a fan of rapids and was able to navigate through them and was able to enjoy them once I conquered them.” Patti

“Every time the kayak pushes free from the shore, I feel like my life is unfolding smoothly in front of me.  All concerns, stress, doubt, and fear are left behind.” ~ Fran
