If your back, hands, shoulders, or arms get sore or tried, Kris will help you. Any clinic with Kris makes a difference!  She has helped women with physical challenges conquer the kayak. This is a 2 hour clinic; 1 hour of instruction on the water and 1 hour practicing the new skills.
  • Kayaking Strokes – Learn the techniques to improve your stroke. This clinic will focus on developing the techniques of the forward and reverse strokes, the forward sweep, backward sweep and stopping stroke, which will enhance your padding experience. This benefits everyone. This is a 2 hour clinic; 1 hour of instruction on the water and 1 hour practicing the new skills.
  • Advanced Strokes – Are you looking for an extreme kayaking experience?  This clinic will prepare you for sea kayaking. This is a 2 hour clinic; 1 hour of instruction on the water and 1 hour practicing the new skills.

“I am pleased to report that no part of my anatomy was sore today following Kris’ great kayak class yesterday.  The only long term effect is the joy of being on the water that is still strong within me almost 24 hours later.  I look forward to more outings with the group. Thank you!!!” ~ Sara

PADDLING WITH PAT CLINICS $48

  • Try It! Recreational Paddling This clinic is for those with no prior kayaking experience. It includes a quick presentation while on land and then you try it! You will learn the basics of safety, how to enter and exit a kayak, and basic strokes to get you where you want to go. This clinic does not go into detail that Kris does in her stroke clinics; it just gets you on the water to try kayaking and learn if this is something you want to develop in your life. WARNING: It can be addictive! This is a 2-hour clinic; 30 minutes of instruction and then a nice and easy paddle.
  • Reading the River ($48 in addition to the paddle cost) Boat control is required; you must know how to steer your kayak. This is a fun and practical way to learn how to read the currents and hazards of the river and improve your steering and awareness at the same time.  Pat shares her knowledge and experience in how to read currents and her knowledge of waters in our area. Various skill levels are offered. This clinic will take place during a Paddling with Pat River Opportunity. The clinic’s length of time will vary according to the river.

Wet Exit Training $48

*** This training is mandatory to continue to paddle with Set Free 2 Enjoy. ***

Offered while the water is warm, this one-hour clinic teaches you the ‘T Rescue’ on calm waters. Be prepared to get wet! You will voluntarily wet exit your kayak. By experiencing falling out when you intend for it to happen prepares you for when it is involuntary. Get to know your boat so you know what to expect. We also learn how to empty the water from each other’s kayaks without getting wet. It’s about helping each other and it’s important. Kind of fun, too!

Wet Exits on the River Training $24

*** This class is mandatory for paddling on any river above the nice-and-easy level. ***

In this one-hour classroom-style clinic, we discuss different scenarios and what is involved when someone involuntarily wet exits on the river. We all will inevitably experience a wet exit at some point and being prepared makes it easier on all of us. You will be required to make one voluntary wet exit on a river paddle during the summer, thus putting into practice what you learned in the classroom. Many of us are members of the IWE Club (Involuntary Wet Exit Club); if you aren’t, it’s only a matter of time!

“I attended [a clinic] with Kris on Monday evening and I encourage everyone to do it.  I was essentially canoeing in my kayak and wondering why it was too hard and sometimes a little painful.  Seems that the stroke I used was not what I should have.  Kris saw, mentioned, guided, and voila-I am on my way to eliminating some bad habits. . . The wet exit was very valuable.  I learned how it feels to go out, and the value of leashing everything in the kayak.  I learned how to use another kayak to re-enter.  That was a good lesson. I think it is a good idea to have a plan before you hit the water accidentally.  And the most valuable lesson – there is no way I can re-enter without help.  So when I am alone, I had better stay close to the edge or be in water where shallows are a few strokes away. Thanks Kris and Pat for offering this valuable information.” ~ Dorina
